Art and Your Mental Health
Your creativity is like a water well. If you abandon the well, it may dry up. 💧
Many people think creative types are just lucky, that they are just born that way. With this line of thinking, it can be easy to ignore your creative side.
But the truth is that you get good at what you spend time doing, and it may be detrimental to your health to let your creative well dry up.
This Harvard study explains how creating art is good for your health. When you spend time making art and engaging in creative activities, you can lower stress levels, which can help with depression, anxiety, and improve memory. A 2017 report from the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging indicated that people over 70 who did crafts projects had a lower risk of developing mild cognitive impairment than did those who read books.
It may actually be bad for your health to avoid creative activities.
One of the simplest creative projects you can do is collage. If you can cut images with scissors and use a glue stick, you too can access your creative mind.
